The two companies share more than a last name. Detailing Group and SiteScan3D were built on the same engineering discipline — and run by family. We staff across both shops, share workflows, and treat your job as one continuous process, not a handoff.
For fabricators, this is rare. Most detailers wait for as-builts and shrug when field conditions don't match the drawings. We don't. When there's a question about an embed, an anchor bolt pattern, or an existing column, SiteScan3D goes on-site, captures it at sub-quarter-inch accuracy, and the data lands directly in our Tekla model — usually within days.
The result: fewer RFIs, fewer field fixes, and steel that arrives ready to bolt up.
SiteScan3D is a high-precision 3D laser scanning company purpose-built around the needs of steel fabricators, concrete contractors, MEP trades, and general contractors. Their deliverables plug straight into the platforms detailers and fabricators already use.
Field reality flows into the model. The model flows to the shop floor. Nothing gets lost in the gap between trades — because there is no gap.
SiteScan3D mobilizes a Leica or FARO scanner on-site — typically a one- or two-day capture window. Embeds, anchor bolts, existing steel, foundation conditions, MEP routing — all logged at sub-quarter-inch accuracy.
Raw scans are registered into a unified point cloud, decimated to a usable density, and exported in the format your detailing software accepts — .RCP, .E57, .PTS, or a Tekla-ready Reference Model.
Our detailers pull the point cloud directly into the Tekla model and build connections, splices, and field-fit pieces against actual conditions. What looks tight on paper either fits or gets flagged — before steel is cut.
Fabrication drawings, CNC files, BOM and weld maps land in your shop with a level of field confidence most fabricators rarely get. RFI count drops. Field fixes drop. Crew time at install drops.
We don't ask you to change platforms. The combined Detailing Group + SiteScan3D output drops into the tools you've already standardized on.
Native Reference Models with georeferenced point clouds. Full BIM integration for detailing teams running v2021+.
Point cloud overlay support for verification and connection design. Direct import of scan-derived reference geometry.
For GC and architect coordination — .RCP point cloud files attach as linked geometry without bloating the central model.
Lightweight reference exports for early-design verification, RFI markups, and field communication with non-BIM trades.
Detailing Group exports CNC, BOM, and production data downstream to the fabrication management platforms most shops run.
.E57, .PTS, .LAS, .XYZ — open formats for anyone working outside the Tekla/Revit ecosystem.
Tie-in to existing structures, retrofit work, tenant improvement steel, and projects where the building drawings are 30 years old and questionable. Scan it, model to it, fabricate once.
Embed and anchor bolt verification before steel arrives. Catch out-of-tolerance placements while there's still time to grout, shim, or adjust — instead of in the field with a crane on standby.
Documentation for stakeholders, scope clarity between trades, and as-built deliverables that hold up at closeout. Faster RFI resolution because everyone is looking at the same field reality.
Existing pipe, duct, and conduit captured precisely — so the steel team and the MEP team aren't fighting over the same six inches above the ceiling grid.
